All WA Fuel Retailers Now Under Mandatory FuelWatch Reporting

Effective May 1, 2026, the Western Australian government has expanded the FuelWatch scheme, mandating that all fuel retailers across the state must report their daily prices. The updated regulations also introduce, for the first time, compulsory reporting of fuel supply outages. This change brings previously exempt retailers, particularly those in regional and remote areas, into the statewide price transparency system.

The new rules are enforced by higher penalties and stronger compliance measures intended to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all reported data from every fuel retailer in WA.

Strategic Implications for Agritourism Operators

For agritourism businesses, these regulatory changes introduce greater certainty for logistical planning and cost management. The inclusion of all regional fuel suppliers into the FuelWatch system provides a complete market overview, directly impacting operational efficiency and the visitor experience.

Key business impacts include:

  • Improved Logistical Planning: Operators can now reliably check fuel prices and, critically, supply availability at all nearby stations. The mandatory outage reporting is designed to prevent wasted trips for refueling farm equipment, delivery trucks, or tour vehicles, saving both time and operational costs.
  • Enhanced Cost Management: Full price transparency across all potential suppliers enables more effective budgeting and purchasing decisions for fuel, a significant and often variable operating expense for regional businesses.
  • Increased Visitor Confidence: Tourists traveling to regional destinations can plan their journeys with greater assurance. Access to reliable fuel availability and pricing information via the FuelWatch platform reduces travel uncertainty, which can be a barrier for visitors considering trips to more remote locations.
